How it works
Open the song.
The chords appear.
By the time you know what to practise, Norah Studio has found the beat, the key, the bars and the chords. On the Mac they run along the top of the vocal lane, one per beat group. On iPhone they run down the vocal lane, and the Tempo panel names the chord playing now and the next one.
Three steps
- Open the song.
- Press play and follow the chords as they pass.
- Loop a section to learn its changes one passage at a time.
On Mac
The chords run above the vocal lane, one per beat group. The Mac guide
On iPad
The chords run above the vocal lane while the song plays. The iPad guide
On iPhone
The chords run down the vocal lane. The Tempo panel shows the chord playing now, and the next. The iPhone guide
Simple by design.
The chart
Triads, in sharps.
Easy to read at speed.
The chart keeps to triads and writes every chord in sharps, so it stays readable while the song moves. The chords are estimates.
With the key
The key sits beside the tempo, estimated the same way.
As MIDI
Export the chords as their own track in a MIDI file, beside the melody.
In your key
Move the song, and the chords leave transposed with it.

Questions
Short answers.
Are the chords exact?
They are estimates. Good enough to play along, and to check what you hear.
Does it show seventh chords?
No. The chart keeps to triads, so it stays easy to read.
Which songs can I open?
Any audio file you already have that the system decodes: MP3, M4A and AAC, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, CAF and more, up to ten minutes. Norah Studio cannot open songs from streaming services: their files are locked to their own apps.
Does it need the internet?
No. The models are inside the app, so the first song works in airplane mode.
